HOKA | Tecton X
Trail Running Redefined. Because copying and pasting a Road Super Shoe on Trail is just not fun.
The Tecton X is the last shoe I personally designed at HOKA (alongside a talented team) and probably the one I’m most proud of. A genuine trail super shoe, built for the surface with a unique plate design that myself and Thibaut Poupard created.
It’s not that it’s the prettiest, edgiest or craziest (thanks TenNine for that one), it’s just a result of all the things I’ve managed to glean over the years in the industry and, I feel, a great example of what I strive to do as a designer. Avoid putting more crap out into the world. Provide something that works, something that moves things forwards and something that tries something different. Something that delivers an experience. Having someone like Jim Walmsley to provide insights tends to prove useful as well!
It’s not perfect (no first version ever is) but it’s got some fantastic write ups and even an award (see below) and I’m grateful for that. More importantly, I hope as it gets on runners’ feet that they enjoy using it as much as I did designing it.
